Public associations: peculiarities of activity
Many civic and charitable organizations are registered in Ukraine, but the details of their work are not always understood. One of the most popular questions is: "Why does an NGO/CO need to spend money if it works to solve various social issues?" Let's try to figure out what a "non-governmental organization" is, what it spends money on, and whether "salary" is on this list.
In simple terms, a "public association" is a group of people who come together to address various legal, economic, cultural, environmental or other issues. An organization has its own structure, which consists of founders, managers and members.
A registered CSO/CO must have a charter, membership and governing bodies. Its activities are clearly regulated by Ukrainian legislation. The organization must report on its work to the state. An important point in the work is that they cannot conduct commercial activities, and therefore do not make a profit.
This has led to the stereotype that "they don't pay money for work here". As a result, it is difficult for civic or charitable organizations to find qualified professionals to fill open positions. CSOs and COs can receive funds from various sources, such as grants, membership fees, donations, sometimes even government funding, etc. This funding forms the basis of the budget and salary expenses. Therefore, you can safely look for a job in the public sector, as there is a need for great professionals.
What are the benefits of being a member of an NGO/CO?
A group of like-minded people
Thanks to your interest in various social issues, you can expand your circle of acquaintances or meet people who can help your project.
Help
You can help those in need. For example, organize various educational events or provide/receive consultations, develop volunteer projects, etc.
Improving communication skills
Members of CSOs and COs attend a number of different events, communicate a lot and talk about their activities. Constant practice is the key to success.
Since the beginning of the war, the number of public associations in Ukraine has increased, as there was a great demand from society and the state. As of the end of 2023, their number reached more than 57,000 organizations, and charitable organizations - more than 20,000.
Now imagine whether these organizations would be effective without a clear strategy, mission, values, professionals, reporting, and financial support? Obviously, no. That's why HR processes and their proper organization are important not only in business.
Anybusiness Consult cooperates with NGOs and COs from various fields, because we know how difficult but important it is to create and maintain a great team that shares the common goal, values, and mission of your organization.
